I think that very few people are interested in both
scanning books and building the scanner for it.
This model looks like it has many disadvantages.

If I can afford to cut the spine, I will use a sheetfed
scanner. If I can't afford to damage the book, I
would not risk it by using this mechanism, but
rather use cameras and manual page turning.
