Dear all,
since Thursday the Wikimedia Conference - formerly: Chapters Meeting -
is happening in Milano. This year it is organised by Wikimedia Italia.
For the first time not only chapters and the Wikimedia Foundation but
also the other entities which can now be recognised by the Wikimedia
Foundation are meeting here. I have meet so far:
* Amical Viquipedia - catalan Wikipedians
* Wiki Edu - educational organisation with people from Wikimedia New
York City
* Wiki Med - association focusing on medical topics, works with
universities and has recently submitted a Wikipedia article as a paper
to a scientific journal, also based in USA
At Thursday we had several working meetings, eg. of the Education
Program with people from the WMF education department, GLAM, Wiki Loves
Monuments and of the Wikimedia Chapters Association.
As the WCA Council Member of Wikimedia Austria I participated in the
WCA meeting. It was the first meeting since we elected Markus Glaser
(WMDE) as the chair. Topics were what happened since the London meeting
and where we are going in the future. Detailed minutes can be found

Short summary:
* we have several new members, since London Wikimedia India and
Bangladesh joined, at Thursday Wikimedia Serbia which observed the
meeting decided during the meeting to join as well
* Fæ (WMUK) has done a peer review with Wikimedia Eesti. A public
report currently waits for approval by the WMEE board.
* bureaucracy and committees have again been an issue. After some
discussions whether to keep committes dormant we decided with a big
majority to dissolve them as we don't need tham as an informal
organisation
* until the next meeting tomorrow (Sunday) morning we are thinking over
some changes to the Charta. There are some duties mentioned which will
still exists after one leaves the WCA and we want to create the
possibility to send a replacement to a WCA meeting
* the next personal meeting after this conference will be conducted at
Wikimania in Hongkong
Apart of this I had bilateral discussions with Markus. We will tomorrow
arrange a date for monthly videoconferences. Until the end of 2012 we
had regular phone conferences which were abandoned over the holidays,
the "letter of the board" and the London meeting. Today we have a video
conferencing system from Wikimedia CH available for these meetings. We
also used it to allow those who couldn't participate remotely at the WCA
meeting.
