The Role of Open Access and OERs within Distance Education Tuesday 15 October 2013, 12.30-2.00pm (lunch provided) The Court Room, Senate House, London WC1E 7HU This first CDE lunchtime seminar of the academic year will explore the role of Open Access (Licensing and Publishing) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) within Distance Education, focusing on the context of the University of London International Programmes. It will commence with brief presentations by Stylianos Hatzipanagos <http://cdelondon.wordpress.com/2010/02/17/cde-fellow-stylianos-hatzipanagos /> (Senior Lecturer in Technology Enhanced Learning, Kings College London) and Jon Gregson <http://cdelondon.wordpress.com/2010/02/17/cde-fellow-j-gregson/> (Head of Knowledge Services, Institute of Development Studies), who will set out the related issues and opportunities. The seminar will then continue with an interactive session where participants can share their thoughts and experiences in groups and plenary. The aim of the event is to raise awareness and understanding of what is possible, and identify next steps and actions that could be taken to improving our use of open access materials, including OERs, both within the University of London International Programmes and generally within the HE sector. The organisers are currently in the process of gathering information from librarians and programme directors relating to existing practice around Open Access. Findings so far will be shared at the seminar, and there will also be an opportunity to discuss the questions raised and gather further information from participants.
