Indeed. I started out as a vandal, for example.

If we only hired people that knew details about Wikipedia (like our COI
policies) right from the first day they made an edit, we'd be reducing our
candidate pool down to zero.

Rather than dwelling on the past, I'd prefer to look to the present. If I
were hiring an interim CEO, I'd look for a minimum working knowledge of
Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement. I'm sure the Board of Trustees did
this.

So, I'll be assuming good faith until I have any evidence to suggest I
should not.
