Ada Lovelace Day 2017
The University of Edinburgh’s 2017 Ada Lovelace Day 
event<http://thinking.is.ed.ac.uk/ada-lovelace-day/> takes place on Tuesday 10 
October; celebrating women in Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) 
as part of an international celebration day<http://findingada.com/>.

The sessions are free, open to all and are live for

 for only a short time longer. The event is being held at the James Clerk 
Maxwell

 and this year there is a special focus on Women in Chemistry and the 19 
petitioners to the Royal Society of Chemistry in 
1904<http://research.library.mun.ca/506/1/pounding_on_the_doors.pdf>.  
Consequently, Periodic Table 
cupcakes<http://www.rsc.org/diversity/175-faces/all-faces/ida-freund> will be 
available throughout the day but don’t wait till they’re all gone!

 (graphene knitting, origami crystallography, metadata games, Histropedia

·      2pm to 5pm: a Women in STEM Wikipedia

 to create fab new role models for young and old alike while polishing off the 
remaining cupcakes. Full training given.
·      5pm to 6:15pm: Film screening of A Chemical 
Imbalance<http://www.chemicalimbalance.ed.ac.uk/> followed by a panel 
discussion with Professor Polly

 Professor Jane

discussing the issues raised by the film; namely the low participation of Women 
in STEM fields and equality in the workplace.
