I am the list mod. The list receives between 50 and 100 messages from non-subscribers a day -- mostly spam (a large portion of it russian, strangely). I sort through it about twice a day.
There doesn't appear to be a subscription from anyone at a newcastle.ac.uk. The individual hasn't subscribed to the list. When contacted, I generally encourage senders to subscribe to the list and resend their message (though I've not been contacted about this message).
