Tim did some initial benchmarks which showed a pretty marked improvement with the Cite template: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Lua_scripting/Benchmarking The cluster impact is going to be pretty modest (possibly unmeasurable at this point) but will have a positive impact once templates are converted to Lua.
