Konstantinos, it is capable of big loads, but simply needs more servers for full Wikipedia support. Also, for direct on-page use, e.g. infoboxes, I am writing an extension -- Kartographer <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Kartographer>, that should be available shortly.
