Hi, The latest technical newsletter is now available at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2019/05>. Below is the English version.
You can help write the next newsletter: whenever you see information about Wikimedia technology that you think should be distributed more broadly, you can add it to the next newsletter at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/Next>. More information on how to contribute is available at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News#contribute>. You can also contact me directly. As always, feedback (on- or off-list) is appreciated and encouraged. ——————————————————————————— Other languages: Deutsch • English • dansk • français • italiano • polski • português do Brasil • suomi • svenska • čeština • русский • українська • עברית • العربية • हिन्दी • 中文 • 日本語 • 粵語 Latest *tech news <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News>* from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2019/05> are available. *Recent changes* - The Wikimedia servers use HHVM <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:HHVM> to run the PHP <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:PHP> code. They are going to use PHP7 <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Technology/Annual_Plans/FY2019/TEC4:_PHP7_Migration/Goals> and stop using HHVM. You can test PHP7 with a new beta feature <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Beta_Features/PHP7>. That way you can help find and report <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:Beta_Features/PHP7> problems. *Problems* - When someone moves a page to a name that already exists that page that had the name the article is moved to is deleted. For a couple of months this didn't always work. Some users saw an error message instead. This has now been fixed. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 30 January at 16:00 (UTC) <https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20190130T16>.
