Hi, The latest technical newsletter is now available at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2019/11>. Below is the English version.
You can help write the next newsletter: whenever you see information about Wikimedia technology that you think should be distributed more broadly, you can add it to the next newsletter at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/Next>. More information on how to contribute is available at < https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News#contribute>. You can also contact me directly. As always, feedback (on- or off-list) is appreciated and encouraged. ——————————————————————————— Other languages: English • français • magyar • polski • português do Brasil • svenska • čeština • русский • українська • עברית • العربية • हिन्दी • 中文 • 日本語 Latest *tech news <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News>* from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Tech/News/2019/11> are available. *Recent changes* - Pages can use geocoordinates <https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P625> from Wikidata with the mw.wikibase.entity:formatStatements Lua <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lua_(programming_language)> function or the #statements parser function <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Manual:Parser_functions>. If they do, they will now be shown using a Kartographer <maplink> <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Help:Extension:Kartographer#%3Cmaplink%3E> if the wiki can use Kartographer. You can report bugs or ask questions on Phabricator <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T210926>. - There is now an EventStream <https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/EventStreams> to see when links are added or removed <https://stream.wikimedia.org/?doc#!/Streams/get_v2_stream_page_links_change> on Wikimedia wikis. You can read the discussions and plans <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T115119>. *Problems* - Some wikis will not be able to edit for a short period of time on 19 March (UTC <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/en:Coordinated_Universal_Time>). This will start at 15:00 UTC <https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20190319T15>. It will last up to 15 minutes but probably shorter. You can see the list of affected wikis <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T217441>. This is because of network maintenance. You can still read the wikis. - Editors who use Firefox to edit with the visual editor had a problem with copying text. When they tried to select text that included footnotes, templates or block images in the middle they would often only get part of the text. This has now been fixed. [1] <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T214976> - Some maps didn't work for a while on 8 March. This has been fixed. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 March. It will be on all wikis from 14 March (calendar <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.33/Roadmap>). *Meetings* - [image: Recurrent item] [image: Advanced item] You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC.
