I assume this is based on WordPress, where this happening was a bit of
a problem for a while. These days it works pretty flawlessly. (3.0.1
is just out, I should probably install it.)

WordPress asks for the account's SFTP password, which I don't find
feels like an undue imposition.

Basically, such a mechanism will be compared to WordPress every step
of the way :-)
