The New York Times has made some progress in this area.[0] Of course, their articles don't get edited the way Wikipedia ones do... I've tried using WikiBlame[1] a few times, but it operates at the level of strings, rather than sections/paragraphs/sentences, so, like you, I'm left to do most of my digging by hand.
