Requests for new features should be filed in Bugzilla:
<https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org>. This ensures that the ideas don't get lost
in mailing list archives and it ensures that eventually these bugs get
looked at and (hopefully) implemented by willing developers.

This particular feature request is no small task, but I think the idea
definitely has merit.
