I figured that out last night with help from Brion and Mark. There was a mismatch between the docs and the actual code. Perhaps the architecture is too iPhone/American oriented? Not all mobile users have unlimited traffic. Many people around me disable images on mobile internet. Hope you will give that some serious thought when the time comes.
