I could see value in recording the original author and allowing that to be 
replaced with the current maintainer (maybe past maintainers as well) to 
prevent a long list of inactive users appearing in the infobox.  Inactive 
maintainers may also appreciate still receiving credit for their work without 
still getting emails, talk page pings, etc.
