Yes, in August 2011 I wrote a wikitext to Lua translator and put it in the LuaFoo extension. The code it generates doesn't actually work, since it replaces parser function calls with calls to nonexistent Lua functions. It was written before we decided what the MediaWiki to Lua interface would look like. Even if it did work, it would be ugly and slow.
