Which applications are asking users for their password? The only partial example I can come up with off-hand is AutoWikiBrowser, though I believe that passed the credentials through Internet Explorer or something and then only used the cookies/session? I'm not sure it stores the username and password directly, though it's been a long time since I've used it and I certainly can't say for sure. I'd be interested to know which applications you're referring to.
