The issue is the extra step altogether. --- Mentor practice: private e-mail users to assign bug, bug gets assigned, bugspam about bug being assigned Your proposed practice: asking to be assigned on bug, bugspam about bug being commented on, bug gets assigned, bugspam about bug being assigned Previous practice (pre-vandalism lockdown NEVER FORGET): bug gets assigned, bugspam about bug being assigned --- I prefer the previous practice. Your proposal effectively just moves the mail from my main inbox to the Bugzilla folder. I suppose it's a slight improvement, but it misses the point that the overall workflow is broken.
