The Wikibase software, developed primarily by Wikimedia Deutchland, includes a lot of reusable code. Basically the components listed as "library" on this page: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikibase/Components This decoupling gives us a lot of flexibility and reduces the cost of maintenance, so I'm all for moving further down that road.
