Hi Brian, on mediawiki-enterprise-l, Derric Atzrott suggested we use the respective WikiData item for up-to-date MediaWiki version information:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q83 It's machine readable, could easily be queried and probably converted into other formats as needed. It is also very easy to include updating this item into our release workflow. Do you think this fits your needs? Once upon a time we did: https://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/MWReleases/?pathrev=81635 (I believe that was actually deployed around 1.17-ish).
