What did you do to get to a page that had that parameter? Parameters can come from anywhere, so its hard to say. But I would say most likely its from javascript (either common.js or gadget) [OTOH: searching for insource:previous doesn't give me anything]. Most of the time, MediaWiki would convert that to a url with index.php in it.
