Hi, according to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Server-side_upload UploadWizard should support file uploads with a file size up to 5GB.
I don't think that setting up some FTP server (FTP is another protocol, like "HTTPS", but rather dated) is a good idea how to spend your time. The link above lists some available options.
