My name is Hussein Mmbaga, I am from Arusha, Tanzania. I am thrilled to be part of GSoC 2026, contributing to the project Enhancing Wikisource Bulk OCR: Implementing User Controls, Engine Configuration, and Feedback Mechanisms alongside with mentors (@theprotonade <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/p/theprotonade/>) and Satdeep Gill ( @SGill <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/p/SGill/>) Wikisource is an online wiki-based digital library operated by the Wikimedia Foundation where volunteers transcribe old books and documents. The Bulk OCR feature allows volunteers to OCR multiple pages of a book at once instead of doing it page by page manually. However the current implementation has several critical issues that reduce productivity and cause poor quality text being saved to wiki pages. This will directly benefit thousands of Wikisource volunteers worldwide who transcribe historical documents daily making their work faster, more accurate and more enjoyable. I’m currently using the bonding period to study BulkOcrWidget.js and codebase and communicate and learning from other developers. I’m looking forward to collaborating with you all!
