Hi all,
As of ~19:59 UTC today [1], Beta Cluster ("deployment-prep") has been
migrated from PHP 8.3 to PHP 8.5. This is part of a wider project to
migrate Wikimedia production from PHP 8.3 to PHP 8.5 [2].
Paired with the PHP upgrade, the maintenance host, (API) appservers and
the jobrunner have been migrated from Debian Bullseye to Debian
Bookworm. Production on mw-on-k8s has already been using Bookworm-based
container images since [3], so an OS upgrade was well overdue.
If you believe you have found a new error *related to PHP 8.5 support*
in MediaWiki core or a Wikimedia-deployed extension, please consider
creating a Phabricator task and linking it to [4]. Furthermore, if you
believe a blocker is severe enough to warrant a rollback to the old
hosts (on Debian Bullseye and running PHP 8.3), rollback instructions
can be found at [5].
Assuming no severe issues pop up and all PHP 8.5 support issues are
rather trivial to resolve, I would like to delete all PHP 8.3/Bullseye
hosts soon, but not before 2026-09-20 23:59 UTC.
