It *aimed* to standarize wiki markup, but by creating another markup 
with what they considered "fancy". Ie, things like being EBNF wasn't 
considered on designing it so there're rules like "// toggle italics 
except if it appears as part of a url".
OTOH it has a set of rules defining the grammar, which is always good, 
albeit wikicreaole is smaller and much less powerful than mediawiki's 
markup.
