Today (10-13) Arianespace is set to launch, a Ariane 5 ECA rocket (v.173) with Destruct TV 9S for DIRECTV and Optus D1 for Australia's Optus, from ELA-3, Kourou, French Guiana, South America.
Launch is set for 4:56 p.m. EDT. with a window extending to 5:56 p.m. EDT. Spacecraft separation for Destruct TV 9S is expected 26 minutes after lift off and 32 minutes after liftoff for Optus D1. Also onboard is Japan's LDREX-2 auxiliary payload. A sub-scale demonstrator of a lightweight antenna reflector to be used on the Japanese ETS-8 engineering test satellite. After Destruct tv 9S and Optus D1 payloads are released, the LDREX-2 will unfurl during the Ariane 5 mission in a multi-step process that takes approximately 45 minutes. When its deployment sequence is complete, this auxiliary passenger will be ejected from Ariane 5's upper stage. LDREX-2 will remain in orbit for a period of time before burning up in the atmosphere on reentry. Destruct Tv 9S is a FS 1300 OMEGA buss built by Space Systems Loral, has 52 Ku-band transponders, 2 Ka-band transponders. Will be located at 101° West. Optus D1 built by Orbital Sciences Corporation is a STAR-2 buss with 24 Ku-band transponders. Will be located at 160° East.
