You have a few options:

1) Buy from a vendor that doesn't BIOS-lock slots
2) Hack your bios
3) Buy a vendor-specific card off ebay

Obviously, #1 is the easiest.  But #3 works if that vendor has ever
included WiMAX cards in their products.  But often they will lock
specific cards to specific models for support reasons.

#2 is risky, to say the least.

I'm in the same position: I have an HP 2530p, and they BIOS lock both
PCI-E minicard slots, so I am stuck with a 5150 and a Gobi.  I've tried
hacking my BIOS, but the BIOS also rejects cards that provide dual
PCI-E/USB interfaces (the WiMAX piece is USB), so I'm SoL.  You are too.
