I was using my relatively new "home made" desktop computer (about 6 months old) when all of a sudden the monitor went black. I was copying some files to a Lexar Jumpdrive at the time.
It is a Gigabyte motherboard, Pentium 4, 3Ghz processor, 1GB OCZ memory. It is not overclocked in any way. Thinking this was just a spontaneous re-boot, I waited but nothing happened.
I turned off the power, waited a few seconds and turned it back on. Nothing! Black screen.
Sounds like it could be the PSU not man enough for the job. Did you try disconnecting the power for a while, a few seconds isn't really long enough.
Does anything happen? Do the case and PSU fans run up? Is the PSU P4 certified and do you have all the power leads connected to the motherboard?
