Generally transfers from vinyl (phonograph records) will sound better if it is cleaned up using some software, most audio editing programs include a Normalizing function which will level the sound amplitude for the different songs.
One of the best (and expensive) is Adobe Audition (previously Cool Edit Pro). My favourite for all audio editing. A very usable app is included with some versions of Nero burning software, Nero Wave editor, basic Nero also has a Normalizing function IIRC. There a some free apps available as well, Google is your friend.
