If you are going to be tweaking then get yourself setup with:

A good memory checker/exerciser
A good system performance evaluator
And -
while running them also run a large file/directory copy to exercise the drives
- using both bus time and electrical power
And exercise your DVD writer and comms with large file download

Power shouldn't be a problem, but if your PSU is not good at the top end of
it's load spec it may start dropping voltage
and that will lead to occasional - apparently spurious errors and dropouts

I also found that something like the Karenware DirPrt was good for loading IO
and memory if you make it compute both MD5 and SHA1
checksums
You can repeat the effort on a directory set, and it's copy on DVD - then check
them - I've found errors on CD's that way
( checking a month or so after creating the DVD's , and with Nero Verify
indicating the DVD's were OK )

Oh! and the 1GB should improve things - but if you are after speed, consider
2GB and setting the Windows switches to stop it using a
Swap/Page file.
