OK- I re-read the web page and figured out what is going on. He does have a
filter, he just used the wall jack in the one room with the computer/dsl
modem as a filter/jumper combo. I could do the same- basically you need a
two jack connection (one for separating the 2 lines coming in, even though
only one is live. He used the line 2 connection as the source to his filter
/ modem. Then he took the output of the filter and plugged it into the line
1 plug which then enabled all the other phones on that line through this
plug. Not a bad idea at all if all the phones are on the same line! It
even avoids the need to buy any filters. The same method could be used in
any single line home using just one of the filters supplied for the phones
in the house.

The micro-filters supplied by SBC are designed to handle the ringing current
of one phone. If you have 5 or 6 phone devices (don't forget DirecTVs, TiVos, etc.),
you can't expect a single micro-filter to handle all the phone devices in the house. It will burn out before one year is up. Why do you suppose the so-called
"whole house" ADSL filters are much huskier and typically cost $35?
