AFter a bunch of hacking, I'm getting close but still no cigar. I realized that what I needed to do was "downgrade" my fancy router into being just a vanilla WAP. ONce I realized that, some poking around revealed that the key is very simple: just disable DHCP in the Linksys and assign it a static IP addr.
That actually worked, but I'm still having a bit of trouble - with zone alarm as it turns out [second time today I've had trouble with it]. First, my laptop couldn't connect at all, and I discovered that to fix that I need ed to change the 'zone' associated with the LAN adaptor from "Internet" to "trusted' at that point, my desktop and laptop could talk back and forth, but I couldn't connect to the internet. With more futzing, I discovered that with my "Internet zone" settings to 'high', my laptop is prevented from connecting out. If I change theinternet zone settings to 'medium', the laptop does just fine. Anyone familiar enough with ZA to know how to configure it to do the right thing in this configuration, or should I just go and switch to the built-in Firewall... /Bernie\ -- Bernie Cosell Fantasy Farm Fibers mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Pearisburg, VA --> Too many people, too few sheep <-- -- ---------------------------------------- WIN-HOME Archives: http://PEACH.EASE.LSOFT.COM/archives/WIN-HOME.html Contact the List Owner about problems: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unofficial Win-Home List Members Profiles Page http://winhome.wavijo.com/
