I have downloaded several missed television shows from tvtorrents. Most seem
to exhibit an out-of sync problem. A few are perfect. The out-of-sync
problem is gradual/variable, not constant. If I fast forward/rewind, the
audio goes back into sync. It seems to go out-of-sync at video errors
(screen shows some noise) and edits. Some of the shows downloaded do not
have any edits and they always seem to stay in sync (anecdotal only). Some
editted shows stay in-sync, but the majority seem to gradual go out-of-sync.

Is this a problem with the person creating the file or a problem with the
codecs available on my system (or some other problem)? I have googled the
problem, but not found either a definitive answer to how/why it happens, or
a definitive solution. Since the FF/RW puts the show back in sync, it is an
annoyance. But I am curious as to reason and if there is a solution.

One of the "solutions" discussed in various forums I have visited is to use
VirtualDUB. I downloaded and tried, but get an error message that is needs a
video for windows codec when trying to load the suspect files. Overall, the
proposed solutions to potentially "fix" the problem seem long and convoluted
when the problem seems to lie in the original file.

Any insight is very appreciated.
