Hello TWK
I understand all GSM phones work all over the
world. The restriction as I understand it (which
applies in South Africa) depends on the supplier.
For instance if we buy a phone from Vodacom they
'lock' the phone into the Vodacom channels. These
can be used in the UK (they have Vodaphone for
instance - all part of the same big sister)
Phones can be 'unlocked' at a price. My advice is
to phone the supplier of your phone and find out
whether they have sister-suppiers where you are
going and ask their advice as to which sim
supplier to use there. If they have, then your
pay as you go will work when you buy a sim card
from them at that end.
Other than that you can set your phone to
international roving and only use it in
emergencies. It is expensive for sms and general
"the cats had kittens' type call; but is perfect
for serious contact stuff. Costs are debited to
your account whether you receive or send calls.
Far as I know - all phones can do this.
