Alex, have you thought about switching to Thunderbird email and news reader client? It can subscribe you to rss feeds that all of the major portals, publications and even groups like this one has. You get a check for new stories each time you run your email client.
That is one of the main reasons that I like Thunderbird. Email, news stories, everything right there in one place.
