Also not free is AstraWeb <http://www.news.astraweb.com/> but they do have a plan that is only $10 & allows one to download at unlimited speed up 25g & you can take as long or little time as you like to down all of that & downloading headers doesn't count. If it takes you 2 weeks or 6 months it doesn't matter which makes it nice for those that have either hispeed or dialup connections. I guess you could call it pay as you go usenet. If one does strictly textural stuff via dialup then it may take a year or if one has a fast cable connection & are downloading binaries they may be able to download all that in less than a week.

Since I'm beta testing Forte's Agent 3.0 I've decided to use their service as a backup server to what Verizon already offers which is very good considering what other ISPs offer in the way of Usenet. Verizon carries many groups & has high retention of articles. Sorry but as far as I know the Verizon News Groups are only available to their subscribers. Still $10 for 25g & you can take as long or as little time as you like is a great deal these days.
