Thanks!!  What's odd is that my setup is *exactly* the same as yours, except

My 'edit\command' is a string for NOTEPAD [C:\...etc\]  But other than that my 
stuff agrees with yours....  AHA...  I just discovered that if I try running 
the .bat file from a command prompt, it runs just fine.  But if I double-click 
on it in explorer it fires up my editor [and I checked: the default action is, 
indeed 'open' [and there isn't even any 'edit' action listed].

Bizarre...
