Here we go. There are times during the day when I start Eudora to rreffer to an email message. I am connected to the Internet but I do not want to check mail. I only want the automatic checking to happen at a time I specify which is 5:00 am. Is there any way to do this?

Oh, so there is only sometimes you want automatic & other times you do not? Ah, but that's not what you asked to begin with my friend. I don't know any email app that will do both of these. You could have all your Personalities Properties with the "Check Mail" unchecked & a Personality for the account that you want to check automatically with the "Check Mail" checked while leaving the Tools/Options/Checking Mail/Check for mail every [anything other than zero] minute(s) & "Don't check without a network connection" enabled then run Eudora in the Windows Scheduler. I'm betting with all the various criteria you're giving me that you can NOT use separate Personalities because the email you're wanting to check at 5am is on the same acct as the ones that you do not want to check automatically. You could set up a separate email acct for that 5am thing you've got going on then follow the procedures I have outlined above & that would work.

If you can't set up a separate email acct for some reason here are some other options. What most people wind up doing in your situation is disabling their network connection when they want to reference email without checking it although I've heard that some people have had problems with Windows Activation if they do this too often while I've never seen the Windows Activation problem with disconnecting & reconnecting the network via the OS.

Here is something else you could do. When you want to reference an email without checking your email you could open any of the MBX [mailboxes] files in Notepad or any other text editor since they are just ascii text files anyway.

Another option is to use the Windows Scheduler with Outlook Express only for when you want to check your email at 5am. In Tools/Options/General/Send and Receive Messages/ make sure that you have "Send and receive messages at startup" enabled but "Check for new messages every 30 minute(s)" not enabled. If you decide to go this route then make sure you have "Leave a copy of messages on server" enabled under Tools/Accounts click the appropriate account then the Properties button & click the Advanced tab. "Leave a copy of messages on server" is at the bottom of this tab. In this way the email that you'll receive at 5am will be re-retrieved by Eudora for easy referencing later.

If you can't use a separate email acct for the 5am thing then I would probably go with the last option that I listed.

Gee, you really made me work for that one. I hope there aren't any other criteria I don't know about or otherwise I'm afraid I'll be out of ideas as this gray matter is about fried. ;-) I hope you don't mind if I take the rest of the day off. <lol>
