I have not been following this thread, but have a comment to add...

On an XP-Pro machine, the inf folder is hidden and read-only.
When trying to manually browse to that folder during an installation,
I have found that on some OSs, (and possibly all the time),
it does NOT show up. It is "sort of" like it is "super hidden" at
those times... I have all the settings correct to see it any other time...

In "those" cases, I get the file I need and copy it to where I can
browse to when I need it... Clear as mud, right??

I "think" the inf folder "may" only be used when installing stuff,
or when you or the system is changing drivers manually (or automatically)...

(If the first statement wasn't muddy enough, was the second...?)

I have no C:\Windows\Inf folder!

Shall I just take a shotgun and put this thing out of its misery <smile>??

I'm wondering how this could have happened?

And I'm wondering why Windows even works??
