While the answer is yes why would you want to reinstall Xp then restore an image? The image is an exact copy of your existing system. If your existing system needs cleaning up then creating an image file will do you no good. Most imaging software requires one to boot from removable media or access the system from across the network in order to create or restore an image of the boot drive with the OS on it with the exception of Norton Ghost 9 & it's predecessors wouldn't run if the OS is on a raid array.
