If the modules are from a failed install, and you have some idea of the install (from the directory dates) - then uninstall and reinstall may be the best option.
Otherwise: Firstly - make sure you can find the backup and system restore/creation discs Then - check the names of the .exe and .sys files against the modules running (ctrl-alt-delete - Task manager - processes) and - right-click on My Computer - select Manage, Services and Applications, Services Right-click on a service and select properties do not change the startup type or delete any entries - the most you should do at this time is to Stop a service you have identified as being run from those directories Now - having installed the recovery console so you can reboot and restore the directory names and determined that none of the modules in those directories appear to be in use: change the names of the directories so the modules won't be found reboot and hope If all appears to be OK - then consider deleting the directories JimB. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim McQueeney" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 2:05 AM Subject: HD contains 'strange' folders... > Aloha all, > > I'm running Win2k, SP4, plus the latest security rollup... > > I recently discover two folders on one of my HD's that probably can be > removed, but I thought I'd ask about them before I did anything stupid. > > The two folders are 'Q:\3a1d168e815e8273fe816b' (which contains 140 files - > 42.8 MBytes) and 'Q:\7487bf866c0ff30c25fc442ccc' (which contains 79 files - > 21.7 MBytes).
