Second would be to check your video manufacturer's website to see how they are handling the video card driver issue for new imcompatibilities that my crop up and if so refresh your drivers often as you can. Imcompatibilities can crop > up at anytime so it pays to be VERY vigilant in this crucial area.

Microsoft has a new Windows Update Application (If you open the Windows Update website you see a flat panel monitor in the Welcome area and you can choose either the Express or Custom update method.) http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

Many of you have warned us of trusting Microsoft updates. If we want video drivers we should go to our video card's manufacturer site, not use drivers furnished by Microsoft. I see a willingness on the part of Microsoft in the new Windows Update software we have been spoon fed, to make updating Windows a less painful procedure. I hope and trust Microsoft will do a far better job of either spoon feeding us the best updates for our hardware. I hope some of the automatically generated requests for updated software are directed directly to the site of the hardware manufacturer, for simplicity.

Current improvements I see are the optional updates for hardware and software. Up until this new update software was installed I had to use a downloaded file to install Windows Media Player 10. Now it is in the custom updates. I had to furnish audio drivers in many instances for the popular AC'97 audio. Now it is spoon fed to me in custom hardware updates. If I see all these improvements in Windows XP, I anticipate even more improvements in Windows Longhorn.

I also see this, "Upgrade to Microsoft Update. Automatically receive updates for Windows, Office and more"

I checked it and it appears to be free.

Just sharing my observations here and hoping Longhorn makes the update process simple.

Chuck
