The one-handed trick with the hatpin is where you apply the pin!
Probably to some point of the engineer's boss's anatomy until the job is
complete and you have the receipt for the 2ยข charge for spares and labour.

P.S. When you are getting the laptop consider
a CPU type that slows down when not doing much,
a fair amount of memory to avoid using the pagefile
A disk drive that is set to turn off after a short period

And - get the technician at the store to show you how easy it is to open the
case and
upgrade memory, change the battery - hard drive and CD/DVD drive
and then get it all back working again!
