This is a WIN98SE box, that a few days ago ceased logging into the net.
WINIPCFG reveals that the MAC in the Adapter Address window is the same as the
asigned static IP; it merely is broken into two-digit groups instead of
three-digit. Thus, where the IP is 192.168.123.234, the MAC appears as
19.21.68.12.32.34. Replacing the NIC with a different brand - changing
drivers, etc - brings no relief. Searching the Registry for the telltale
"19.21" gives no hits.  Clearly, some component of Windows Networking is bent;
can anyone suggest which vxd's or dll's want to be refreshed?
There's a mort of software on this machine and I'd rather avoid re-loading the
whole of Windows.

many thanks, stencil
