Hi All,

Happy to report some progress in broadband services in my area of Western
PA.

Verizon has been stringing fiber all over the place and is now offering FiOS
service in some places. See www.verizon.net/fios

It's priced at $40/month or based on some flyers, $35/month with 1 year
subscription. The service is 5M/2M Mbps (625/250 KBps). Faster options are
available, but who needs it. Verizon is also blasting adds on TV for $15
DSL. That's a bit slower, but at 96/15 KBps very adequate.

In response, Comcast has increased their dnl speed to 6M, but no cut in
price. They do have come-on prices of $20/month for 6 months ($45 after
that), or $30/month for 12 months and $45 after that.

Of course the trick is to live, where you have these choices :-)

Rich
