Are you referring to the area next to the start button?
That whole bar can be removed as a toolbar by r/clicking the task bar in the
middle.

I've been trying to discover how to remove some items from the QuickLaunch
area.
From what I've read the items here are shortcuts, but they don't seem to
behave as
shortcuts which can be easily deleted. Are the QuickLaunch items "hidden"
in a
particular place? Any suggestions.... many thanks.
