If the fille is currently in use, a name change will probably not be
allowed.

I am trying to get someone to change a file extension so that I can do an
experiment and they keep telling me that it will not allow her to change
it.
I always get "file may become unstable if you do this", but it always
changes it just by saying yes. Am I missing something here? Is it possible
that her PC will not even allow her to change it even if she just says
yes?
I don't know OS yet.
