Look into the settings for "bridge" under VC1 configuration.  This sends
PPPoE directly to another router which would see the Westell as a simple DSL
modem.

Or you can do "single static IP" which causes the router to convert PPPoE to
the ISP's public IP address.  Then you configure another router for
ethernet-ethernet NAT and routing.

Did all that with VZ tech supt on the phone & they told me it must be something wrong with the unit & that's when they told me to call Westell.

I've bridged routers before & have setup DSL modems with routers so it shouldn't be so difficult then VZ tech supt tells me that they've had lots of problems getting that Versalink to work in bridge mode. I asked about sending me a stand alone modem & they said I would have to contact sales. If I were to buy one I certainly would NOT buy a Westell POS.
