Guess what - and I never suspected - Faulty DVD/CD RW drive but could it
cause symptoms such as I described.
Reset to basic look of new install of XP, all setting gone, no network,
wipe out Norton and McAfee, hardly any registered progs working, my user
deleted and opening only as Administrator.
Could a faulty CD/DVD burner do this?
Are you sure it's not a faulty ide controller on the mombo? Have you
tried the drive on another mombo ide connection?
Anyway - off to get a new one -- any advice as to what to get?
I like Pioneer drives & only have 3 of them. ;-)
