The "latest" technology components are always excessively high priced.
The stuff that's been out for 1-2 years is the sweet spot of price/performance. Take for example dual layer DVD writers, now routinely available for < $40. It's about time for the next generation of optical technology to be introduced at $200+, since the DL writers now commodity priced.
